Four afternoons at the patch, for Silver Rail families.
Two Terrebonne ranches have opened their gates to Silver Rail families this week, free for Silver Rail kids, their siblings, and their parents, and for Silver Rail staff and teachers and their children. DD Ranch is hosting Wednesday through Saturday, October 28–31, with 7 activity tokens for every child: 6 paid for by the Silver Rail Children's Fund and 1 from DD Ranch. Smith Rock Ranch is hosting Thursday, October 29, as an in-kind donation to the fund. DD Ranch is now full; Smith Rock on Thursday still has room. Come as you are.
Why a pumpkin patch? Because for a child who was at Silver Rail on October 15, an ordinary fall afternoon with classmates is not a break from recovery. It is recovery. These are the fund's first outings, and they're the ones we set out to make happen on day one.

DD Ranch is full on every day. Smith Rock Ranch on Thursday still has room. Tap Thursday at Smith Rock to register. Each day has a limit so the ranches can keep it unhurried; when a day fills, it'll show here as full.
Every day is free for Silver Rail kids, their siblings and parents, and Silver Rail staff and teachers and their children.

DD Ranch · Wed 1–5, Thu–Fri 11–5, Sat 11–3 · full · sponsored by Midtown Yacht Club
3836 NE Smith Rock Way, Terrebonne
- Pumpkin patch, hay rides, train rides, petting zoo, pony rides, and the rest of the ranch's fall setup. Food trucks on site most days.
- Every child gets 7 activity tokens: 6 paid for by the Silver Rail Children's Fund and 1 from DD Ranch.
- Give your family name, teacher, and grade at will-call to pick up your tokens.
- Heads-up: DD Ranch's shooting gallery will be open Friday and Saturday, so there may be the sound of shots. The owner let us know ahead of time out of care for Silver Rail families, so you can choose what's right for your kids. If you'd rather avoid it, Smith Rock Ranch on Thursday is keeping its cannons and shooting gallery silent and still has room.
- About 35 minutes north of Bend via Hwy 97. Open to the public too; weekday afternoons are quiet.
Smith Rock Ranch · Thursday 1–6 · given free to the fund
1250 NE Wilcox Ave, Terrebonne
- The corn maze, the zoo tram, the animal house, barnyard golf, and the Snoopy ride. Not running Thursday: hayride and pony rides (staffing), and the pumpkin cannons and shooting gallery, which the ranch is keeping silent out of care for the children most affected and anyone for whom a sudden loud sound is too much right now.
- Smith Rock Ranch is giving this day to the Silver Rail Children's Fund for free. Silver Rail kids, their siblings, and their parents come in free, and so do Silver Rail staff and teachers and their children; every child gets a corn maze ticket, plus an extra ticket for a grownup. Pumpkins aren't included, since the ranch's end-of-season inventory is low. The first 100 kids to the corn dog food truck get a free mini Silver Rail corn dog, paid for by the Silver Rail Children's Fund. Check in at will call with your family name.
- The ranch said yes in the middle of its busiest week and a family emergency of its own. We won't forget it.
- Go to the will-call window when you arrive. Give your family name, teacher, and grade; you're on our list, and your tickets and tokens are waiting there. A Silver Rail parent volunteer will be nearby to say hello and help if anything's off.
- A parent or guardian stays with their child the whole time. Our volunteers check you in and say hello; they don't supervise children.
- No cannons at Smith Rock Ranch on Thursday. The ranch is keeping its pumpkin cannons and shooting gallery silent out of care for the children most affected and anyone who was within earshot on October 15. If anything at either ranch is too loud for your child, tell the parent volunteer and we'll sort it with the staff.
- Costumes welcome. Dress warm; Terrebonne is cold by 5. No photos of children without a parent's say-so. No press.
Register now. Spaces are limited by day.
One form per family. Register today, as space is limited, so we can give the ranch a headcount and have you on the will-call list. Not registered with the fund yet? That's fine; this form is all you need this week. Silver Rail staff and teachers: use the same form and pick the staff option.
The form has one checkbox. This is what it says.
I'm the parent or guardian of the children I'm registering and will stay with them at the ranch. The ranch runs the activities under its own rules and insurance; the Silver Rail Children's Fund arranges and pays for admission and does not supervise children. I accept the ordinary risks of a day at a working farm for my family. I'll report any injury to ranch staff right away. The fund may not photograph or name my children without my separate permission.
Opens the form full screen. Takes about two minutes.
If the form doesn't load, open it in a new tab. Please register through the form rather than by email, so your family name makes the ranch's will-call list.
Thank you, DD Ranch, Smith Rock Ranch, and Midtown Yacht Club.
DD Ranch, Smith Rock Ranch & Midtown Yacht Club
DD Ranch days are sponsored by Midtown Yacht Club, who pledged to pay for the fund's first outing before the fund had a bank account and made the DD Ranch days possible. The Silver Rail Children's Fund is paying for 6 of the 7 activity tokens for every child (DD Ranch gives the seventh) at DD Ranch, Wednesday through Saturday. Smith Rock Ranch is giving Thursday to the Silver Rail Children's Fund for free: the day, the students' maze tickets, and their tokens, as an in-kind donation. Thank you, all three, from every parent on the board.
